The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis began supporting Syringe Service Programs in the State of Indiana following the passage of a State Law in 2015, which allowed county health departments the discretion to declare a public health emergency related to an epidemic increase in the transmission of HIV and/or Hepatitis-C directly related to injection drug use and apply to the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) to operate a Syringe Service Program (SSP).
Since 2015, the Health Foundation has provided $150,000 in funding to eight Indiana counties to support the purchase of harm reduction supplies to help curb the spread of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis-C, and other communicable bloodborne pathogens.
