More than 20 years of targeted grant making
Experience and intuition.
Community spirit and cooperation.
Innovation and leadership.
The Health Foundation of Indianapolis knows it takes a combination of all these skills to help improve the health of central Indiana citizens, particularly those who are underserved or disadvantaged. In the past 20 years, we've discovered that targeted grant making done in collaboration with other organizations has a wider impact for those in need, and strengthens program effectiveness in the process.
That's why The Health Foundation provides more than funding. We proactively seek out programs, build partnerships and encourage innovative solutions to some of our community's most pressing health issues.

History
The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis was formed in 1985 with an original 12.5 million from the sale of Indiana's first health maintenance organization, Metro Health HMO. Today our endowment is valued at approximately $32 million.
The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis takes its fiscal management responsibilities seriously in order to maintain a relatively consistent rate of payout regardless of economic fluctuations. Our financial stewardship includes the recent purchase and renovation of The Academy, a historic girl's school building in downtown Indianapolis, as an earned revenue opportunity.
From the beginning, we decided to support health-related causes, particularly those that helped our community's poorest and most vulnerable citizens. Our funding priorities have evolved since we were founded as health concerns also have evolved. We continue to be progressive funding partners, working within the means of our endowment to make high-impact, long-term changes in the health of our community.
Funding Priorities
In 22 years of grant making, The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis has contributed more than $22 million to health-related organizations in Indiana. Our current focus is on school-based and adolescent health, HIV/AIDS and youth obesity.
Board of Directors
The board of directors of The Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis has made a lifelong commitment to the foundation and the funding priorities it serves. Our board members have a combined history with The Health Foundation of more than 150 years. That experience is crucial in determining how the foundation can best serve the community through grant making.
